Like many Americans, I often wonder what has happened to our country and our economy.  What did we do wrong, and what did we do right?  Many of us are now unemployed, or underemployed.  When I look back, I am glad for the choices I made, and the steps I took to preempt this mess personally.

I was a banker for many years.  Working for a publicly held company, I always was reading about the huge amounts of money that the Executives were making.  I was comfortable, but by no means was I rich.  And then it happened.  I got caught up in the first round of layoffs, sitting at home, and no plan for the future. 

So, I took inventory of my skills, and came up with a plan for success.  It was really fairly simple as I followed the three steps I will describe:

1. I, and only I look out for my well being and future ability to make money.  I do not want to have someone else tell me what to do and when, and always have that thought that they could let me go at any time, and for any reason.

1. What do I do well?  Can I sell?  What background do I have that would enable me to start my own business and succeed?  If you take inventory of your skill set, as I did, you will be able to identify your future path.

1. Where do I start?  Ok, you know your skill set, but what do you do with it.  I found that doing as much research as possible is the key to success.  Explore the internet for ideas, speak to friends and family, interview others in the field you want to enter.

By following these steps, you will be able to set your course.  Like any adventure, there will be dangers and pitfalls, but always stay true to where you want to guide your life. My personal adventure wasn’t easy, but, it was not as hard as I had envisioned.  By staying true to my ideals, I was able to reach my goal of owning my own business, earning more than I ever thought possible, and now, in retrospect, I thank the bank for letting me go, and starting a life that I truly enjoy!  For more information, visit info@canyonleasing.com
